Dallas winning
First Place and Best RT in his first National Event at age 16
The driver of el Demonio Rojo
is 17-year-old Dallas Schultz. Dallas is what you might call a
driving machine. At five he drove his first Go-cart. At seven his
first of three motorcycles. When he was ten, he was taught to drive
a stick-shift truck around the property. At eleven, he could launch
a 24' boat with a stick shift truck down a steep ramp.
A couple of days after he
turned 15 Dallas received his driving permit. Before he turned 16
years old, he drove a 1-ton dually crew cab towing a loaded 32'
racecar trailer back from Huntsville, AL; to and from Little Rock,
AR 3 times; Atlanta, GA; Columbus, Oh; and Phoenix. He'd also driven
a 43' motorhome to New York and back and to St/ Louis and back. All
before he turned 16.
His father races a couple of 65
Coronets (Texas
Black Magic &
Big Red
Ram), and Dallas would load the racecar on the trailer, drive
the rig to the track, unload the car, make it ready, tech it in, and
load it back up when his father was finished. Every two times to the
track -- Dallas handled the oil change.
So in 2004, when Dallas had
turned 16, he was ready to race. He, his dad, and a friend put
together el Diablo Blanco
for Dallas to race in the Nostalgia Muscle Car class of
The Texas
Outsiders. He won the first race of the season, competing
against drivers who started racing before Dallas was born. He held
the points lead throughout all of 2004, and won the NMC Points
Championship in 2004.
During the off season between
the 2004 and 2005 season, the white 1972 Demon was stripped down and
rebuilt to be about 2 seconds faster. It is now red and the name
changed to el Demonio Rojo. Dallas built the 408 CI stroker small
block motor that now powers the car. Before the 2005 season started,
Dallas and his father went to the Frank Hawley School of Drag Racing
and qualified for their Class IV Super Comp license, good for as fast
as 7.5 second (about 175 MPH) Quarter Miles.
In 2005, Dallas won the first
NMC race in Holt, Fl, and was the Top Qualifier -- and in the
Semi-Finals in Tulsa, when the rain cancelled the rest of the racing.
With one race left in 2005 -- Dallas is solidly in First Place.
Dallas' hobbies are drag
racing, NASCAR, motorcycles (he has a 2002 Yamaha V-Star 100
Cruiser), and his truck. He plays high school basketball, golf, and
soccer.
As to not embarrass Dallas, it
should be said that the above was written by his proud father.
Dallas would be to humble to have written of his accomplishments. I
am not comfortable driving with anyone except Dallas. That's just
how good of a driver he is.
